TIM PEAKE AND MORE ADDED TO SESSION TWO: SCIENCE FICTION VS. FACT!
We’re hugely excited to announce that the lineup for Session Two: Science Fiction Vs. Fact has now been finalised. Joining deep space explorer and senior ESA science advisor Mark McCaughrean, erstwhile ESA scientist and bestselling sci fi author Alastair Reynolds will be ex-Ash guitarist and sci fi fan par excellence Charlotte Hatherley, Gavin Rothery – VFX artist, director, and co-creator of 2009 modern sci fi classic Moon – and ESA astronaut Tim Peake!
The session, to be hosted by famed science broadcaster Dallas Campbell, will seek to separate the fact from fiction. Says Mark McCaughrean: Many of us working in space today were inspired by the vibrant predictions of classic science fiction books and films from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ to ‘Star Wars’, alongside actual space missions like Apollo. But as people now speculate about colonising Mars or even travelling to the stars, how easy is it to turn science fiction into real space missions? Where do the boundaries between the routine, the difficult, and the completely impossible lie? That’s what we’ll explore in this exciting session.”
