SPACE ROCKS AT ESA OPEN DAY 2018!

Nicol Caplin and Armelle Hubault discuss the trouble with Tribbles with Jason Isaacs

On October 7th, 2018 Space Rocks rocked up to the annual ESA Open Day 2018! It’s held at ESTEC – ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre in Noordwijk, South Holland every year, and it’s a window into the cutting edge of space exploration. ESTEC is where ESA develop and test spacecraft and space technology, and one day a year they fling open their doors for space fans and the sci-curious to see what ESA’s been up to. Here’s a snapshot of the day, featuring everyone from Star Trek: Discovery star Jason Isaacs to Marillion’s Steve Hogarth and Steve Rothery, Rick Armstrong, ESA astronauts Andre Kuipers and Thomas Reiter, ESA exobiologist Nicol Caplin and ESA engineer Armelle Hubault, science writer Claudia Mignone, astronomer Stefania Giodini, violinist Joe Puglia, and more! We did it all with the help of awesome science communicators Sue Nelson and Niamh Shaw moderating the panels as well as Space Rocks’ own Alexander Milas, and with ESA Senior Science Advisor Mark McCaughrean on tour guide duties and a special appearance from Rosetta project scientist and Dutch 501st Garrison stormtrooper Matt Taylor! Check out our gallery and a video recap of the day below!
