Uplink 57: With Aisling Brouwer and Anna Phoebe of Avawaves

MUSIC AND THE GREAT BEYOND. Join us this Thursday, August 12th for an exploration of the intersection between scientific exploration and the arts with musical innovators Anna Phoebe and Aisling Brouwer of AVAWAVES.

We’re live from 8pm BST/ 9pm CEST / 3pm EDT here.

Followers of Space Rocks will be no strangers to violinist and composer, Anna Phoebe - a longtime Space Rocks collaborator who exhilarated audiences with her startling climate-change themed “No Planet B” performance at our 2019 event in London: one of the latest entries in her Between Worlds project. She is a violinist and composer on cross-genre collaborative projects, working across science, space, poetry, dance, film, and art. Anna Phoebe has toured the world, both as a solo artist and with multi-platinum selling bands including Roxy Music, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Jethro Tull. Her latest solo album, “Sea Souls”, is due for release on 3 September.

Aisling Brouwer is a Dutch/Irish film composer, producer & artist based in Berlin. One of her latest scores is for Rubika Shah’s BIFA-nominated feature ‘White Riot’ which screened in cinemas around the world after winning - amongst others - the BFI Grierson Award in 2019 and a Special Mention Award at Berlinale International Film Festival. The ambient electronic score was released as an OST album in December 2020 and has received attention from renowned film critic Mark Kermode as well as artist & radio presenter Tom Robinson. She also recently composed the soundtrack for a Discovery Channel documentary “Anomaly: The Bermuda Triangle of Space”.

Together, Anna and Aisling form AVAWAVES, a contemporary virtuoso duo who create ambient soundscapes based on an intricate interplay between violin, piano, and electronics. AVAWAVES are rooted in cinematic narratives, evoking emotional journeys of the heart and mind. Their second album, “Chrysalis”, is due for release on 8 October.

Space Rocks is a celebration of space exploration and the art, music, and culture it inspires, in association with the European Space Agency.
